Bird Photography

After getting my first telephoto lens i quickly developed a love for photographing Birds of all sizes. From beautiful Songbirds and Ducks to Shorebirds and majestic Raptors. Some of the most beautiful life on this planet has wings and a beak.

Image descriptionWhile setup watching for Wood Ducks several Killdeer hunted along the shoreline within feet of us. They are really cool birds to photograph. Note the muddy bill from digging up worms.I went out for about an hour while my wife was eating dinner with her sister and just when i was about to consider the evening a failure, out walks this Black-crowned Night Heron, a first ever for me. You can see the intensity in his eyes as he prepares to strike at a passing fish. Being a youngster he struggled a bit but managed to catch a few smaller fish.A Mallard Hen glows in the morning sun after a "dabbling" for some food.A Great Egret sizes up its fresh catch.A Great Blue Heron fights to get an il-fated fish down the chute.
